Charlotte, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams' golf team placed third at the "Sunset Hills Shootout" on Wednesday afternoon in Charlotte, NC as they faced off against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University and the Elizabeth City State University Vikings in the final regular-season golf match of the season before competing in the CIAA Championship that begins on Thursday afternoon and continues into Friday.
The Rams, playing at Sunset Hills Golf Club, the site of the 2004 CIAA Men's Golf Championship, fired a 440 on the afternoon to finish third out of the three teams. Windy conditions forced scores that were a full ten strokes higher than WSSU's season average as the Rams closed out their regular-season play.
The Golden Bulls narrowly edged the Vikings for first place as they shot a total of 357 while ECSU shot a 360.
Leading the way for the Rams was Brett Lindquist who shot a team-low 84.
All three teams return to action tomorrow at 10:00 am in the first of two days of CIAA Championship Tournament competition at Sunset Hills G.C.
