Ram Golfers Slip One Spot After Day Two Of Championship Play; Finish 7th Overall

April 16, 2004

Charlotte, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Men's golf team slipped one place on Friday afternoon and finished the 2004 CIAA Men's Golf Championship in seventh place. The Rams shot a combined 775 in the two-day championship and placed ahead of both Virginia State (834) and St. Paul's College (911).

The Rams, who were one stroke out of fifth place after day one as they shot a 390 on Thursday, bettered their score by five strokes and fired a 385 on Friday. However, the improvement in scoring was not only evident with the Rams, but with the remainder of the field as all the competitors improved their scores on the afternoon.

The largest bright spot of the day was Brett Lindquist. Lindquist fired a season-low 76 on the afternoon and turned in a 166 over the two-day event.

Fayetteville State once again captured the CIAA Golf crown as they tallied a 613 total (306 + 307 = 613) with North Carolina Central 30 strokes behind in second place with a 643 (318 + 325 = 643).

The Rams placed ahead of Virginia State who recorded an 834 (433 + 401 = 834) and St. Paul's who dialed in at 911 (461 + 450 = 911).

The Rams finished in their usual seventh slot as they did four times in 2004. The golf season was a success for WSSU as 2004 marked the first time in over 17 years that the Rams have participated in NCAA men's golf.
